UP Mindanao participated in the UP Faculty Professional Advancement in Southern Taiwan Universities last 12-17 February 2017. The first batch of UP Mindanao delegates visited different universities in Kaohsiung and Pingtung. The delegates include Dr. Nilo B. Oponda (Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs), Dr. Ritchie Mae T. Gamot (Dept. of Math., Physics, and Computer Science), Assistant Professor Junaldo Mantiquilla (Dept. of Biological Science and Environmental Studies), Assistant Professor Fritzie Ates-Camino (DBSES), Assistant Professor Cyrose Suzie Silvosa-Millado (DBSES), Assistant Professor Aileen Grace D. Delima (DBSES), Assistant Professor Marion John Michael M. Achondo (DBSES), Ms. Mae A. Responte (DBSES), Ms. Mary Grace G. McManus (Laboratory Aide), Ms. Marie Analiz April A. Limpoco (DMPCS), Ms. Armacheska R. Mesa (DMPCS), and Assistant Professor Cinmayii G. Manliguez (DMPCS). Their schedule of visit to the universities was facilitated by Dr. Tim E.M. Wu, a chair professor of Shu-Te University.

Dean Dacera speaks to constituents, 2017

College of Science and Mathematics Week began on 13 February with newly-appointed Dean Dominica Dacera speaking before students and faculty. The Dean iterated her vision for the College of Science and Mathematics to maintain excellence in instruction, research, extension, and administrative services. She vowed to increase the local and international visibility and to improve the reputation of the University. She pledged collaboration with international universities and advanced degrees in math and computer sciences, among other topics.  Students voiced their concerns regarding representation and fees which were addressed by the Dean and other faculty administrators. Sharing their inputs were Assoc. Prof. Cleto Nanola, Assoc. Prof. Virginia Obsioma, Asst. Prof. Leo Estana, Asst. Prof. Vic Calag, and Assoc. Prof. Joseph Acosta.The students likewise promoted their upcoming student events.
