The Center for the Advancement of Research in Mindanao (CARIM) through the Office of Research (OR) held the first session of their CARIM ShopTalks webinar series on 8 June 2023 via Facebook Live and Zoom. UP Mindanao and Ateneo Zamboanga-Mindanao Institute partnered on the first webinar session on "Technical Translation for Research."  UPMin faculty members Asst. Prof. Janus Cabazares (Dept. of Social Sciences) and Sr. Lecturer Dr. Jayson Ibañez (Dept. of Biological Science & Environmental Studies) along with Ateneo Zamboanga Exec. Director Floraime Pantaleta shared their experiences in conducting research and advocacy work. Prof. Cabazares discussed "From Technical Translation to Language Intellectualization of Filipino and Other Philippine Languages." Dr. Ibañez spoke on "Modern Meets the Indigenous: Integrated Knowledge Translation and The Philippine Eagle Conservation Case." Director Pantaleta presented "Translation as Prelude, Practice, and Provocation."

WMSU and CMU biologists take PGC-Min training

Scientists from the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) and the Central Mindanao University (CMU) arrived at UPMin on March 28, 2023, to take the Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) training provided by the Philippine Genome Center Mindanao. The scientists paid a courtesy visit to Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao before proceeding to the training. The WMSU team availed of the training for their study on ZamPen chicken, a Niche Center in the Region (NICER) for R&D, supported by the DOST. The WMSU team was composed of Dr. Kay P. Ramos, Dr. Genelyn G. Madjos, Dr. Myrtle AnnE. Penarendo, and Mr. Femie Jhay F. Maatubang. The CMU team was composed of Dr. Mark Lloyd G. Dapar, Dr. Chris Rey M. Lituanas, Ms. Karen Gem D. Ares, Ms. Marla Luz C. Capin, and Mr. Josipino B. Malaki, Jr. PGC-Min's Ms. Joan Acaso and Science Research Associate Juliet L. Arieja guided the visiting team.

 The Department of Human Kinetics completed its Kahimunan Mindanao Research Colloquium in November 2022. Research in sports and athletic performance was shared over four Saturday sessions. 

On November 5, were on analysis of sports performance of student-athletes. Mr. Mark Domingo Asuncion from Isabela State University on "Students'perception on the attainment of intended outcomes in individual and dual sports," and Mr. Jerome Ferdinand Balaga from Davao del Sur State College and UP Diliman on "Semi-quantitative movement analysis of jumping heading skill of a female football athlete."

 On November 12, were indigenous games and psychological wellness of physical education students and teachers during the pandemic. UP Mindanao Asst. Prof. Armando Salazar on "The indigenous games of Bagobo K'lta in Sirib, Davao City." Ms. Ivy Catherine Bering of the University of Southeastern Philippines on "Emotional satisfaction and online learning experience of BPED students." Dr. Porferia Poralan of the University of the Immaculate Conception on "Characterizing physical education teachers in an online learning environment."

On November 19, "Leisure activities of students from elementary to college: A compilation of case studies" by Phan Minh Quan of UP Diliman and Krishna Balaga of UP Mindanao. "Mental health of collegiate student-athletes in the time of COVID-19," by Mona Liza Adviento-Maghanoy
 
On November 26, Mr. Juvanie Lapesigue and Mr. Kirk Joshua Mediodia will discuss their studies on the effects of the pandemic on physical education professionals, and Mr. Gideon Juezan, PhD, will talk about his study on sports performance anxiety and sports confidence.

Ease of Doing Business seminar, 2022

A new generation of UP Mindanao staff members mixed with front-line unit heads constituted the participants in the 'Ease of Doing Business" Anti-Red Tape Seminar in UP Mindanao on November 17, 2022. New personnel from the front-line units were introduced to the principles of efficient government service as stated in Republic Act 11032, "The Ease of Doing Business Act," which also served as a refresher to the more senior personnel. Administrative Officer Analiza Fulvadora of the Office of the Chancellor, vice-chairperson of the Anti-Red Tape Committee, served as lead resource person.
