Blended Learning, e-Learning, 2017

A Capability-Building Seminar-Workshop on Blended Learning and e-Learning was held on August 7-9 in UP Mindanao. Dr. Patricia Arinto and Dr. Sheila Bonito, both of the UP Open University, served as resource persons.

Blended Learning is a teaching approach that combines face-to-face class meetings with customized on-line activity (usually via the internet). These may use  open access web pages, e-books, slides, videos, e-mails, chats, video-conferencing, search-engines, virtual worlds, simulation,  blogs, and multi-media authoring tools that are free of charge.

The Flipped Classroom is a popular form of Blended Learning where homework is done in advance. Students absorb readings or audio-visual materials beforehand, in preparation for coming to class. Class meetings discard the lectures and proceed directly into class work involving applied-learning activities and immediate feedback from the instructor.

The workshop session produced models of Flipped Classrooms, showing the mix of activities from the traditional classroom and the online resources.

These models were for modules in swimming, creative writing, probability theory, computer algorithms, communication, biology, food technology, physics, botany, and architecture.

The succeeding workshop sessions were on selecting online learning resources, designing learning activities, and designing an assessment plan.

The workshop was organized by Interactive Learning Center-Learning Resource Center and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. (See photos here https://www.facebook.com/UPMindanao/posts/1651851604887434)
