The UP Mindanao Ugnayan ng Pahinungod organized the Mindanao Week of Peace: Painting Workshop and Contest to celebrate the annual Mindanao Week of Peace.

A total of 19 public high schools sent students and their advisers to join the workshop and contest that culminated in the awarding ceremonies on November 30, 2023.

"Peace is something that we have to continue to work on," said UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao. "Art is a powerful tool to advocate and campaign for peace in our region. We hope that students will use their talent in art to be a contributor to peace in Mindanao."

The contest winners were Rea Capada of Optaciano Hilay National High School (1st place), Cristine Flor Monreal of Mintal Comprehensive Senior High School (2nd place), and John Adrian Arnol of Dona Carmen Denia Senior High School. 

The judges were Instructor Edwin Priete (Dept. of Humanities), Ms. Marianne May Loquias (BA Anthropology), and Ms. Maryll Dame Delposo (BA Communication & Media Arts).

The UP Mindanao Human Resource Development Office gave a seminar on Data Privacy and Cyber Security on November 29, 2023, for employees and faculty members. Engr. Albert C. Gabriel from the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Region-XI Cyber Security Bureau served as a resource speaker for the event.

The seminar objectives are to empower employees to handle sensitive and confidential information, secure employees' data from being re-identified over time, and meet regulatory requirements.

"Cyberattacks and data breaches have serious consequences," said Chancellor Murao. "These attacks can undermine confidence in our institutions, breach confidentiality, and break trust. We should go beyond simple custodianship of data – we should safeguard the privacy and integrity of the information entrusted to us," she said.

UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni E. Murao signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on behalf of UP Mindanao with the New Zealand Embassy for the Girls Football Development Project at the Panaghisgot 2023 conference on 25 November 2023 in Davao City. Her co-signatories to the MOA are Bukas Palad (Davao) Foundation, Inc. Agency Head Ms. Maria Jusette Bonite, SOS Children's Village-Davao Director Mr. Leonilo N. Rivero, and Tambayan Center for Children's Rights, Inc. Executive Director Ms. Luz Divina C. Anung, as represented by Coach Charlyn Nadong. 

Following the signing, the project officially kicked off its Sports for Development (S4D) Girls Football Festival the next day, on 26 November 2023, at the UP Mindanao Admin Field, where the teams from the partner organizations engaged in a friendly match.

Four faculty members of the Davao Doctors College Psychology Department also conducted short lectures on sports psychology for coaches.

DHK constituents display their kinetic skills

The UP Mindanao Department of Human Kinetics (DHK) gathered Mindanao sports and fitness practitioners and development program heads to collaborate on strategic actions that can contribute to sustainable sports development programs for Mindanao. Through the "Panaghisgot 2023" forum held on Nov. 25, 2023, in Davao City, the DHK offered its academic programs to partners who could provide career and development opportunities to students and graduates in sports- and human kinetics-related courses. The DHK is currently offering one associate degree program, one undergraduate, one post-graduate diploma program, and one masteral program. UPMin Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao thanked the interested partners and expressed her expectations for the creation of a UPMin College for Human Kinetics in the near future. UPMin houses the Davao City-UP Sports Complex, which is currently attracting a growing number of sports meets.
