The U.P. Los Baños Graduate School off-campus offering of PhD in Development Studies located in UP Mindanao held its first days of class on 22-23 August 2015 at the Gaisano Room, Administration Building. Dean Jose Camacho and Assoc. Prof. Bing Baltazar Brillo conducted the classes for a total of 14 persons in attendance from University of Mindanao, University of the Immaculate Conception, Dept. of Education, Mindanao Development Authority, UP Strategic Management, LiDAR 2 Program, and UP Mindanao.
The UP Mindanao Foundation will hold the 1st "Oblê Run" fun-run on 6 September 2015, Sunday, in Davao City. The fun-run objective is to raise scholarship funds for deserving students of UP Mindanao. Victoria Plaza Mall Parking Area at 5:30 A.M. is the start of the out-and-back fun-run. Registration fees are P250 for the 3-kilometer category, P350 for the 5-km., and P450 for the 10-km. Fees entitle runners to a race number, race shirt, and a light meal. Discounted student registration fees are available. UP Mindanao will serve as an offsite campus of the UP Los Baños Graduate School for its doctoral degree program offering of PhD in Development Studies. Interested persons are informed that the deadline for submission of application requirements to the UP Los Baños Graduate School in Los Baños, Laguna, has been extended to 19 August 2015, Wednesday. Classes start on 22 August 2015 in UP Mindanao, Mintal, Davao City, every Saturday and Sunday, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., until 28 December 2015.
To qualify for admission, the applicant should have a Master's Degree from any recognized institution. The applicant may secure or download the Application for Admission Form (GS Form No. 1) and Recommendation Form (GS Form No. 2) from the website: www.uplb.edu.ph. Forms may be dowloaded here.
The applicant shall fill up GS Form No. 1, and attach one photocopy of each diploma received, one original and one photocopy of Transcript of Records for each degree earned, the proof of payment in the form of a copy of the bank transaction or postal money order for the (nonrefundable) fee of PhP500, and one copy of a recent photo (colored, 2"x2") in the Application form, using paste or glue.
Payment may be made through direct cash payment at the UPLB Cashier's Office, through a postal money order remitted to the UPLB Graduate School, or through JRS or LBC courier services.
For GS Form No. 2, three former professors of the applicant shall individually fill up a GS Form No. 2. Each accomplished GS Form No. 2 must be placed in a sealed envelope and sent directly to the UPLB Graduate School, or handcarried by the applicant or a representative in a sealed envelope, or sent by e-mail as a pdf file to <;.
Send the completed GS Forms Nos. 1 and 2, together with the attachments, to the UPLB Graduate School through post, through email, or in person. Fax is not accepted. Documents submitted will not be returned to the applicant.
The applicant will be given a Notification of Admission through mail and email. The admitted applicants shall acknowledge their admission by sending back to the Graduate School a duly accomplished acceptance card.
The Davao Writers Guild, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the University of the Philippines Mindanao, is now accepting applications to the 2015 Davao Writers Workshop to be held October 27 to October 31, 2015. Fifteen fellowships are available, of which four will be given to writers from outside Davao but residing in Mindanao.
Applications are for the following genres: short fiction, poetry, essay, and play, and they may be in English, Tagalog, and/or Binisaya. Entries should contain 2 short stories (1,000 to 5,000 words), 2 essays (1,000 to 5,000 words), 2 one-act plays, or 5 poems.
The entries must be the applicant’s original work and should not have undergone critique from a panel in another workshop or for a creative writing thesis. Accepted fellows will be given free board and lodging for the duration of the workshop. Alumni of the Davao Writers Workshop, as well as of national writers workshops, are not eligible to apply.
