U.P. Mindanao Dept. of Human Kinetics Instructor and Swim Team Coach Albert Francis Ramos participated in the Inclusion Through Sports (ITS) training program held on 4-11 July 2017 in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya. The ITS program is for sports coaches and youth workers and organized by the Italian non-government organization Mine Vaganti and organizations in eleven other countries.
This program uses sport designed as non-formal education to impart skills and competencies and enhance social inclusion of young people. A number of simple games--called "methodologies"--have been devised by the trainers to foster cooperation and participation while honing athletic skills.
Mr. Ramos contributed to the creation of the methodology "Tic-Tac-Shuttle"--similar to the game of tic-tac-toe but played in an open space--that develops quick movement and teamwork.
Another methodology he contributed to is "Pac-man", wherein players move along lines on the ground--similar to the "Pac-man" computer game--to change direction with every encounter, which promotes strategic thinking and fun.
The ITS program and its methodologies have been adopted in the countries of Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Kenya, Cameroon, Senegal, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina, China/Hong Kong, India, and the Philippines.
Mr. Ramos' participation in the 2017 training is a continuation of his involvement since the July 2016 training in Senegal. He will join the delegation in the presentation of the ITS to co-funders, the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, in Sofia, Bulgaria on September 28-30.
