UP Mindanao will host the “4th International Workshop on Mathematical Biology'' or IWOMB 4, to be held online via Zoom on 09-11 June 2021 on the theme "Strengthening Decision Support System for Better Public Policy through Infectious Disease Modeling."

Live streaming for the IWOMB 4 keynote and plenary talks will be open to the public through a YouTube channel while the workshop proper (break-out sessions) shall be conducted via Zoom.

IWOMB, which started in 2018, aims to promote state-of-the-art mathematical biology research in the Philippines and provide an opportunity for local researchers to establish collaborations within the Philippines and between other countries.

Since 2018, IWOMB has brought together local enthusiasts in the field serving as a focal group to build a mathematical biology community to eventually lead towards the establishment of a professional organization.

IWOMB 4 shall gather 70 participants (consisting of graduate students, researchers, and educators) and will consist of talks on infectious disease modeling and its benefits to public health policies.

The attendees and participants are from different organizations and universities and the guest speakers and workshop facilitators are distinguished professors and researchers from different parts of the world. Joining IWOMB 4 are the members of the IWOMB Organizing Committee who started the event in 2018.

The Niche Center in the Regions for R&D – University of the Philippines Mindanao also known as "NICER-UPMIN" is the lead organizer of IWOMB 4.

NICER-UPMIN is a newly established research center that focuses on deriving insights from patterns and correlations of health-related data at different levels using quantitative methods, data analytics, and applied mathematical modeling approaches, in order to generate decision-support systems that will empower local government units and public health officials.
