UP Mindanao hosted the Mindanao Leg of the ABS-CBN Pinoy Media Congress (PMC) Digital Caravan on 19 March 2022. The Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) selected UP Mindanao as the member institution to represent the southern Philippines in the 2021 digital caravan tour. Assoc. Prof. Karen Joyce G. Cayamanda, faculty of the BA Communication and Media Arts program and a member of the PACE's Board of Trustees served as coordinator of the Mindanao Leg. The roll-call of the 32 participating schools within Mindanao showed the diverse locations from which students converged for the congress. Opening messages were given by ABS-CBN corporate communications head Kane Errol Choa, PACE VP for Mindanao Dr. Fraulein Oclarit, and UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao. The resource speakers were journalist Jaque Manabat, TV executive producer EJ Mallari, also a PMC alumnus, and ABS-CBN head of international distribution Pia Bacungan-Laurel. UP Mindanao's BA Communication & Media Arts (BACMA) students participated in the open forum with questions that elicited thoughtful answers from the resource persons. The congress was interspersed with performances, quiz games, and surprise greetings from television celebrities. BACMA students Maya Miclat and Renz Ibanez stood up to the challenge of playing master of ceremonies to a national audience and came through with energy and finesse.
