17th UPMin Supply Chain Forum

In celebration of UP Mindanao's 29th Founding Anniversary, the School of Management (SOM) is conducting the 17th UP Mindanao Supply Chain Management Forum with the theme “Sustainable Growth and Optimization in Agricultural Value Chains” on March 20, 2024, from 1 to 5 p.m. The forum will be conducted online to provide access to the general public. The forum will showcase six speakers who are currently involved in value chain research. The first speaker is Mr. Mark James S. Saguimpa, who will present an article entitled “Productivity and technical efficiency of Robusta coffee farmers at varying elevations in Sultan Kudarat, Philippines.” He will discuss how elevation can influence agricultural outputs, affecting farmers’ productivity and efficiency.

The second speaker is Mr. Adrianne John Nuñeza, who will present the paper “Factors Influencing Market Outlet Choice of Coffee Farmers in Sultan Kudarat, Philippines.” The study analyzed the factors influencing the choice of farmers' market outlets in Sultan Kudarat, the top coffee producer in the Philippines.

The third speaker is Mr. Dave Laurence Q. Dela Cruz. who will try to answer the question, “Can Sultan Kudarat Coffee Farmers Afford a Spanish Latte? The study investigates whether the smallholder farmers have substantial income for the farm and the household and explores the case of two coffee farming communities in Sultan Kudarat: Kalamansig and Lebak. 

The fourth speaker is Ms. Alessa Keith E. Carbonell, who will be presenting the “Effects of Farm Management Practices on Technical Efficiency: A Case of Cacao Farmers in Laak, Davao de Oro and Veruela, Agusan del Sur''. The paper tackles the issue of how low productivity becomes a pressing concern in the Philippine cacao industry as it widens the gap in meeting the increasing demand both domestically and globally.

The fifth speaker is Ms. Novy Aila V. Rivas, whose topic is “Exploring Profitability of Small-scale Cavendish Banana Growers through Allocating Banana Yield to Different Banana Classes: an SCND Modeling and Simulation Approach.” The paper will showcase arrangements to aid them in making informed decisions for an optimal grower-buyer arrangement to ensure profitability and sustainability in their banana farming.

Lastly, Mr. Alex John C. Labanon will share his research on “Maximizing Profitability for Cavendish Banana Farmers through the Development of a Cost Calculator and Market Profit Optimizer Application.” The research proponents hope to empower farmers by informing them of alternative enterprises that have the potential to enhance their profitability through a Cost Calculator and a Profit Optimizer application.
