The UP Mindanao Investiture Committee made a significant contribution to the success of the event. Subcommittees for procurement and management were organized months earlier and involved up until the eve of the investiture. The Cultural Night on the evening of September 14 featured an extended performance by the UP Mindanao Koro Kantahanay, the official university choir, and the UP Mindanao Dance Ensemble. Faculty members Julius Neil Piala and Ena Marie Dizon served as emcees at the Cultural Night and the next day's UP-SUC Summit.

UP-Bangsamoro Development Institute Summit Consultation

Heads and leaders of the University of the Philippines and the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) met to discuss possible collaborations for academic, technical, and scientific development in the first UP-Bangsamoro Development Institute Summit Consultation, held on September 13, 2023, in Davao City.

Heads of the Mindanao State University, local government units, and non-government organizations also attended. UP organized the consultation to convey its commitment to bolster education and socio-economic development in the Bangsamoro region.

UP President Angelo Jimenez said UP intends to contribute to empowerment in the region and end social unrest and underdevelopment. "UP intends to work closely with local communities in the Bangsamoro to preserve and promote the region's heritage through cultural exchange programs, exhibitions, and awareness campaigns to strengthen the capabilities of local government units and social institutions," he said.

UPMin Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao served as chairperson of the Technical Working Group of the UP-Bangsamoro Development Institute Summit Consultation. In this capacity, she led coordination efforts leading to the participation of the Bangsamoro leaders and representatives.

Aside from President Jimenez, National Scientist and former UP president Emil Javier, Regent Tiongco, the chancellors of the UP Constituent Universities and autonomous units were present. Heads of key UP units presented their viable offerings for the Bangsamoro areas.

Ustadz Abdulkarim Misuari, deputy speaker of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament, and Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, president of the Mindanao State University System, led the Bangsamoro sectors in the consultation. 

PPP's Call for Participants for KIST Park

The Public Private Partnership Center, a government agency, issued the Call for Participants: Preliminary Market Sounding Exercise for the proposed UPMin Knowledge, Innovation, Science & Technology (KIST) Park, as follows:  
     
The University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin), with support from the PPP Center, intends to implement the UP Mindanao KIST Park Project (the “Project”), located in Mintal, Tugbok District, Davao City, through public-private-partnership (PPP). Aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, the Project is identified to contribute to putting up infrastructure facilities, in partnership with the private sector, to reduce the complexity and upfront costs and risks for private research and development (R&D).
As part of the initial stages of project development, the PPP Center and UPMin are conducting this preliminary market-sounding activity to solicit insights and feedback on the project terms from interested private sector partners. This activity will run from July 31-August 11, 2023, and will be facilitated through email correspondence of the questionnaires.
The objectives of the Preliminary Market Sounding Activity are as follows:
• To discuss the scope and details of the Project;
• To ascertain the level of interest of the private sector to undertake the same;
• To gather initial feedback from potential project sponsors, contractors/operators, and financiers; and
• To identify potential issues or problems that may affect the viability of these projects.

First chancellor, Dr. Cuyno, gives reflections on institution-building

Dr. Rogelio V. Cuyno, the first chancellor of the University of the Philippines Mindanao, returned to the campus on July 6, 2023, to give a talk in the Legacy Lecture Series of the UPMin Office of Research.    

In his talk, “Reflections on Building a Higher Education Institution,” Dr. Cuyno prescribed sustainability and continuity as key to UPMin’s future direction. He detailed these in six suggested interdisciplinary academic clusters and 11 institutional elements. Reactions to Dr. Cuyno’s talk were given by Education Supervisor Mr. Randy Tudi of the Commission on Higher Education-Region 11, Assistant Regional Director Ms. Mirasol Domingo of the Department of Science and Technology-XI, Mr. Nap Concepcion, chairperson of the UP Alumni Association Davao, and UP Mindanao Chancellor Prof. Lyre Anni Murao.

The UPMin non-teaching personnel (Admin, REPS, and COS) held a "Handog Pasasalamat" for outgoing UP Vice-President for Administration Nestor G. Yunque on July 18, 2023. 
Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao, VC for Administration Leo Manuel Estana, All UP Workers Union President and former Staff Regent Analiza Fulvadora, REPS representative Michael Gatela, and former union president Joel Sagadal were among those who gave testimonies.  
 
The Certificate of Special Recognition cited VP Yunque for: 
  • his dedication and for leading the non-teaching sector of the University
  • continuously supporting the REPS and Admin Staff career advancement and endeavors, and lobbying for regularization of personnel and additional plantilla items
  • his heart for the welfare of the Non-Government Workers, Job Orders, Security workforce, and Utility personnel
  • his unwavering efforts in the effective and inclusive implementation of welfare programs for non-teaching personnel

Vice President for Administration Nestor G. Yunque served in this capacity from 2017 to July 2023. The Office of the Vice President for Administration is directly responsible for the UP System’s Office of Administrative Personnel Services, the Physical Plant Office, the Security Division, the Property Division, the Cash Division, the Internal Audit Division, and the Accounting Division.

VP Yunque also previously served as UP Visayas Vice Chancellor for Administration. He is a faculty member of the UP Visayas College of Arts and Sciences – Division of Biological Sciences.
