A Thanksgiving Program was held for Prof. Dulce M. Flores, Ph.D. who retired from service in June 2013. Prof. Flores is one of the pioneers of UP Mindanao, having transferred here from UP Los Banos. She was the first Dean, heading the College of Arts and Sciences, the precursor of the present three colleges. Warm testimonies were given by colleagues VCAA Karen Joyce Cayamanda, Prof. Virginia Obsioma, Prof. Annabelle Novero, Prof. Vicente Calag, Prof. Ruth Gamboa, Ms. Cherrylyn Cabrera, Prof. Adela Ellson, and Chancellor Sylvia Concepcion. A slide presentation was presented by CSM colleagues thru Prof. Jess Claire Sanchez. Prof. Flores was presented with a plaque of appreciation and some tokens. Prof. Flores thanked the faculty members and non-teaching staff who were present in the ceremony.

Dean Reynaldo Abad organized a tree-planting on February 1, 2013 to kick of the 18th Anniversary celebration of UP Mindanao. The tree of choice was the Philippine Rosewood, an endemic tree and known by the local name of "To-og". A total of 65 plus five tree seedlings were planted beginning at 7:00 AM in the vicinity of the University Avenue, the Student Center Lane, and Bagobo Lane. Dean Abad guided Chancellor Rivero to four tree-planting sites designated for her. VC for Academic Affairs Emma Ruth Bayogan and VC for Administration Vicente Calag also planted seedlings, as well as HR chief Joseph Acosta, DMPCS chair Nilo Oponda, and faculty members of the Dept. of Bio. Sciences, Dept. of Math, Physics and Computer Sciences, administrative services heads and staffmembers, students of the CSM and the CSM Student Council.
