Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte designated UP Mindanao as a member of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council through Executive Order No. 21 Series of 2024, dated June 13, 2024.

As a member-designate, UP Mindanao can share elements of its Public Service Continuity Plan with the city. These include identifying Mission-essential Functions, Recovery Time Objectives, and Hazards Assessment and Continuity Strategies.

The UPMin campus is currently designated as a tsunami evacuation area in case of such an event.

UPMin brings to the CDRRMC its urban and regional planning expertise in crafting Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUP) for local governments and Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plans (LUDIP) for estate planning.

UPMin's expertise in imaging for geographical information systems (GIS) can help the city government spot geographic and topographic features that show climate-vulnerable areas, such as areas vulnerable to flooding.

UPMin's watershed, waterways, and coastal studies can also contribute to identifying environmental resources, such as potable water resources, and their vulnerabilities and potential threats.

UPMin's membership in the City DRRM Council aligns with the UP's strategic plan to emphasize collaboration with local governments in public service.

It provides UPMin with opportunities for further research aimed at creating public impact.

It further aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of Good Health and Well-being, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Life on Land, among the other goals.
