UP to hold first Linggo ng Unibersidad

UP TO HOLD ITS FIRST LINGGO NG UNIBERSIDAD FROM JUNE 10 TO 20

The University of the Philippines (UP) will hold the first Linggo ng Unibersidad from June 10 to 20, 2024. Themed Hayag: Pagpugay sa Lingkod Bayan, the week will recognize and celebrate the efforts of its faculty, students, and workers in continuing the university's traditions of honor and excellence and commitment to public service.

The week-long celebration will be kicked off with a UP System-wide synchronized flag raising ceremony on June 10, Monday, 8:00 a.m. The event, which will be primarily-held in Quezon Hall, UP Diliman, will be attended by officials of the UP System, as well as the Chancellors of the constituent universities from UP Baguio in the north, UP Mindanao in the south, and the only virtual university in the country, UP Open University.

The event will also showcase the talents of several cultural groups in the university, namely: the UP Manila Belle, the UPLB Sandayaw Cultural Group, the UPV Babaylan Dance, as well as the UP Mindanao Dance Ensemble.

On June 11, Tuesday, a ceremony for exemplary agency-hired employees will recognize their efforts in living up to UP's brand of public service. The Pagkilala sa mga Natatanging Paglilingkod ng mga Agency-hired na Kawani will be held at the UP SOLAIR Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City, at 2:00 p.m.

Later in the day, a Pagkilala sa mga Natatanging Mag-aaral na Nagkamit ng Pinakamataas na Marka sa Licensure Exam will be held on 5:00 p.m. at the Atencio-Libunao Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City. The event will recognize exceptional alumni of the university who have performed well in their respective licensure examinations.

On June 13, Thursday, the weeklong celebration will continue with the Pagkilala ng mga Faculty, Kawani, Mag-aaral na Nagtamo ng Pambansa o Internasyonal na Rekognisyon at 5:00 p.m., which will be held at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, Quezon City. The event will recognize members of the UP community whose work and accomplishments have been lauded by national and international recognition bodies.

 Celebrating the country's independence, the UP Symphony Orchestra will be holding a concert on June 14, Friday, 6:00 p.m. at the University Theater, UP Diliman, Quezon City. Titled Pagdiriwang: Bayan at Pamantasan, the musical event will feature the works of Tchaikovsky, Mozart, San Pedro, Nakpil, and many more.

On its 116th Foundation Day on June 18, Monday, 10:00 a.m., the university administration will be launching the UP Strategic Plan 2023-2029 at the Malcolm Hall Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City. With the theme of Public Service Through Transformation UP Education, officials will be presenting the national university's flagship programs to the members of the news media.

A total of ten flagship programs, anchored on the pillars of teaching, research, innovation and creative work, public service, and consultative and accountable governance, will be unveiled, outlining the university administration's priorities in the next five years.

Capping off the week-long series of activities will the 2024 Parangal at Pagkilala para sa mga Kawani at Retirado ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, which will be held on June 20, Friday, 8:00 a.m., at the Ignacio B. Gimenez Gallery (IBG-KAL) Theater, UP Diliman Quezon City. The event will give due recognition to the employees and retirees of the university who have served with loyalty and distinction.

To be held for the first time this year, the Linggo ng Unibersidad not only recognizes exemplary members of the UP community, it also highlights their exceptional accomplishments and efforts in their respective fields and professions. The achievements of these faculty, workers, students, and alumni of the national university give testament to UP's commitment to serve the nation with honor and excellence.
