UP Mindanao's graduating BS Applied Mathematics students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in a real-world local government setting in Tagum City.

This opportunity opened when UP Mindanao, represented by Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science (DMPCS) Chairperson Assoc.Prof.Cinmayii Manliguez and Asst. Prof. Sherelyn Evangelio witnessed Tagum City Mayor Rey. T. Uy sign a Memorandum of Agreement to allow UP Mindanao's BS Applied Mathematics (BSAM) students to have their practicum/On-The-Job training in the LGU.

"This MOA is a key part of our mission to bring impactful research to our community," said Assoc. Prof. Manliguez. "The MOA is an instrument for enabling collaboration and innovation that directly benefit the people and address the pressing challenges we face together," she said.

"The DMPCS have been sending BSAM and BS Computer Science practicum students to do their practicum in the Tagum City LGU in the past years," stated Asst. Prof. Evangelio.

"However, this MOA will allow us to send not only BSAM but students from all degree programs in the future," she said.

"Previously, the DMPCS also forged research partnerships with the LGU, which provided the DMPCS with access to their data, which resulted in highly publishable research outputs such as student theses," she said.

"I believe that this MOA will open other research opportunities for UP Mindanao," she said.
