UPAA's OneUP Davao-Mindanao Leg Alumni Gathering and Fellowship held

UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao spoke of UP Mindanao's expansion plans and fellow alumni reported their activities at the UP Alumni Association's OneUP Davao-Mindanao Leg Alumni Gathering and Fellowship on October 12, 2024.
The reports were heard by an audience composed of UP President Angelo Jimenez, UP Alumni Regent Robert Aranton, UPAA VP Fernando Sanchez, UPAA directors Benjamin Muego, Ma. Racelyn Marasigan, and Jeff Coronel, UP Mindanao Foundation president Zony Reyes, alumnus Hon. Isidro Ungab, and some 120 alumni from UP Mindanao and other campuses.

Chancellor Murao presented UP Mindanao's accomplishments and plans in an audio-visual presentation. She described the Road to 5K project, or the race to achieve a student population of 5,000 students, by creating four proposed colleges for medicine, architecture, engineering, and sports.
UP Alumni Association director Ma. Recelyn Marasigan presented their 4E's Connect program with its pillars: UP Seedx for senior high school students, the UP FlexWork Scholarship for work opportunities, and UP & About Dashboard for alumni support.

UP Alumni Association Davao president Khalil Guinomla presented the UPAAD's accomplishments and plans, including the UP Mindanao Masjid Renovation, the Legacy Tiles, the Balay Alumni project, and support for UP Mindanao's programs.

UP Los Banos Alumni Association Davao president-elect Michael Cantos presented its Oblation statuette as the 2024 UPLBAA Distinguished Service Awardee, its members who were fellow awardees, and promoted its upcoming golf tournament.

UP Mindanao Alumni Association president Krishna Balaga announced the Panagtagbo alumni homecoming for June 14, 2025, to celebrate UP Mindanao's 30th anniversary.

In his message, President Jimenez reiterated his support for the plans and programs of the alumni associations and UP Mindanao.
"We will open a medicine program in UP Mindanao next year," he said. "We plan to have a hospital, a PGH in Mindanao because the World Health Organization recommends having one doctor for every 1,000 persons. In Mindanao, it's 40,680 persons per doctor," he said.
"Another rush is a college of engineering because a nation with development aspirations must have a strong engineering program," he said.
"UP Mindanao will rise and last a thousand years, along with the alumni," he said.
President Jimenez then administered the Oaths of Office to the officers of the three local alumni associations.

A tribute for alumnus Sebastian "Angie" Angliongto, a leader in the movement for the creation of UP Mindanao who passed away in July 2024, was held with an audio-visual presentation and a plaque of appreciation handed over by Regent Aranton to the wife, Teresita Angliongto, and the family members.

The UPAA Davao also awarded the winners of its Mindanaoan waiting shed design competition from among the UP Mindanao BS Architecture student participants.

The UP Mindanao Koro Kantahanay sang a choral repertoire, the Smuggled Ones, and the UP Mindanao Dance Ensemble performed street dance, waltz, ballroom, and Mindanaoan-inspired dances in the intermission.

Alagad ni Oble, a band composed of UP Mindanao alumni, performed a set of pop songs during the networking fellowship.

UPAA director Jeff Coronel described the OneUP Mindanao Leg as "the first of its kind in a long time."
According to fellow alumni the event created new relationships and strengthened existing ones.
