College valedictorians in 2023
Mark James Saguimpa of the Bachelor of Science in Agri-Business Economics (BSABE) program, the college valedictorian of the School of Management (SOM), addressed the graduating students on SOM Recognition Day, held at Lorenzo Hall last July 2023.
His speech highlighted students' realities and how they triumphed over all the adversities, such as the pandemic.
“Sa ating paglisan sa pamantasang ating tinitangala at pinapahalagahan, nawa’y bitbit natin, hindi lamang ang mga aral sa mga pagtalakay sa silid-aralan, ngunit lalung-lalo na ang ating mga natutunang prinsipyo ng pagsusumikap, pagpapakumbaba, at pagpapakatao. Nakadikit na sa hibla ng ating buhay, ang panlipunang responsibilidad na pagsilbihan ang bayan,” Mark Saguimpa said.
Meanwhile, Nixie Serna from Bachelor of Arts in English (BAE) program, valedictorian of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), gave her message to the graduating students on CHSS Recognition Day, held at Mini Theatre on July 17, 2023.
In her speech, Serna uses the word “bright” as a metaphor for expressing what it means to be a student of UP, to give and be a light in the dark.
“The world out there is undeniably daunting and can be dark at times, especially in our current political climate, but a single spark can ignite the brightest flame. Just like that one song that goes, “Tumindig at magsilbing liwanag sa dilim.”... So, let us lend a hand, be kind, and keep carrying on. Success is not only measured in achievements but also who you are as a character.” Nixie Serna said.
Saguimpa and Serna were named magna cum laude in the Commencement Exercises on July 18, 2023.
The College of Science and Mathematics’s valedictorian Meluzia Marie Amora, summa cum laude, was recognized in the CSM Recognition and Send-off Ceremony held on 17 July 2023. Ms. Amora was the University Valedictorian and had the privilege of addressing the Class of 2023 in the 25th Commencement Exercises on July 18, 2023.
