UP Mindanao's Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Economics (BSABE), Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BSDS), and Bachelor of Sports Science (BSS) are now eligible as priority programs for the Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Science & Technology (S & T) Undergraduate Scholarships, as announced by DOST-SEI on June 16, 2024.
BS Agribusiness Economics is a four-year program offered by the School of Management. It provides graduates with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in economics and business management tailored for the agribusiness sector, crucial for advancing Mindanao's role as the Philippines' food basket.
BS Data Science, offered by the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science (DMPCS) of the College of Science and Mathematics, is a newly offered four-year program and the first undergraduate data science program across the UP System. This program envisions producing highly competent data analysis practitioners and problem solvers in various fields using applications of data science.
Bachelor in Sports Science, a four-year program under the Department of Human Kinetics of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, equips students to function effectively as systematic science-oriented sports specialists. It also serves as a preparatory course for future medical studies.
The three programs supplement UP Mindanao's five priority programs covered by the DOST-SEI S&T Undergraduate Scholarship: BS Architecture, BS Biology, BS Computer Science, BS Food Technology, and BS Applied Mathematics. These new opportunities are integral to UP Mindanao's "Road to 5,000 Students" (R2-5K) initiative, which aims to enhance the university's academic programs and significantly increase enrollment from the current 1,400 students to 5,000 by 2029.
The DOST-SEI S & T Undergraduate Scholarships are for incoming first-year college students who meet specific eligibility criteria and successfully pass a qualifying examination. Applicants must enroll in programs aligned with priority fields in science and technology to qualify for the scholarship.
