University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin) students and friends won third place in the Techstars Startup Weekend Davao Pitch Competition for “Kabilin,” an innovative web-based software on Philippine culture and history. BS Agribusiness Economics student Charis Anne Canceran delivered the prize-winning pitch on behalf of their team, composed of BS Computer Science (BSCS) students Phillip Ian John Hufana and Mohammad Muraya Tampugao, and Bien Lim and Newart Manguilimotan. 

While promoting the learning and preservation of Filipino culture and history, the “Kabilin” software applies video game mechanics and Virtual Reality to deliver an immersive educational experience. 

The Techstars Startup Weekend-Davao Pitch Competition is a Davao Startup Week event co-organized by IDEAS-XI, the UPGRADE Innolab, and Poplar Homes. 

"The Davao Startup Week represents a unique opportunity to showcase best practices, exchange invaluable insights, and explore potential funding and professional development opportunities," said UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao in her welcome remarks, representing the IDEAS consortium.
