Women working in the domains of information and communications technology and artificial intelligence will lead online discussions on the theme, "DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality" on 27 March 2023 through the Zoom online platform. Dr. Armacheska Rivero Mesa-Satina, director of UPMin’s Information and Technology Office, and Ms. Trisha N. Lopena, project officer of Sky Artificial Intelligence-Automated Labeling Machine-Large-Scale Initiative (SkAI-ALaM) are among the speakers. Dr. May Anne E. Mata of UP Mindanao will lead the discussion on “Bridging the Gap: Women Leading the Way for Rabies Research in Davao City with Digital Solutions.” Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Kristine M. The University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin) Gender and Development (GAD) Office organized the online discussion as "SPOTLIGHT: Women in Information and Communications Technology Research," as part of its 3rd Virtual GAD Research Forum. The forum culminates UPMin's International Women’s Month celebration.

The Department of Biological Sciences and Environmental Studies (DBSES) presented the webinar lecture of Professor Emeritus and National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Academician Eufemio T. Rasco Jr., titled "Silos and Intersections: Where is expertise heading?"

The webinar is an offering to the celebration of the 28th Anniversary of UPMin, and is in line with the DBSES theme, "Kinaiyahan para sa tanan (Nature for All)."

Volunteering and Peacebuilding in BARMM, 2023

The Ugnayan ng Pahinungod Mindanao gave a webinar on "Volunteering Talks - On Volunteering and Peacebuilding in BARMM: Spotlight on Bangsamoro Youth Initiatives" on February 28, 2023. Mr. Lo Ivan Castillon was the resource speaker. He is the chairperson of Positive VIBES (Volunteers' Initiatives in Bridging and Empoweinr Society) and convenor of the Christian Youth Coalition (CYC), both NGOs that are operating in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). He is also the chief of the Planning and Management Division of the Technical Management Service - Office of the Minister, BARMM. Among the panelists were Chancellor Lyre Anni E. Murao, Pahinungod System Director Marie Therese P. Bustos, former Pahinungod UP Visayas Director Prof. Ruben Gamala, UPMin Pahinungod officer Marsh Cayunda, and Director Michael Gatela.

1st Artificial Intelligence R&D Conference and Workshop

UPMin's SkAI–ALaM and ASIMOV-HAWKS, together with DOST-PCIEERD, will conduct the 1st Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Conference and Workshop on 14-15 March 2023 at Acacia Hotel, Davao City. The Department of Science and Technology through its Innovation Council, and the Philippine Council on Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology (DOST-PCIEERD) organized the event, which is on its inaugural run. Headed by Executive Director Dr. Enrico “Eric” C. Paringit, the conference seeks “to raise public awareness of the benefits and potential uses of artificial intelligence and robotics in addressing urgent national issues.”

MinDa offers linkage with CAMP, Korean NGO

Mindanao Development Authority’s Sylvester “Bum” Sales (sixth from left) led a team to visit UP Mindanao on March 13, 2023, to invite UPMin’s participation in an agricultural marketing project of the Center for Asian Mission for the Poor (CAMP) to be supported by the Government of Korea. The team plans to hold the project launch on March 31, 2023. Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Annabelle Novero, Mr. Allan Villanueva of the Office of the Chancellor, and Joel Sagadal of the Land Reservation Management Office received the visiting team composed of (fourth from left, to right) Rev.
