August in UP Mindanao is the start of the First Semester of Academic Year 2016-2017. Undergraduate classes begin on August 1. In the Master in Management program, classes for the First Term begins on August 20.
On August 4, a Philippine Documentary Heritage Awareness Seminar and Nomination Writeshop will be held at the Administration Bldg., UP Mindanao, Mintal, Davao City. This is part of UNESCO's Memory of the World Program for public awareness of endangered documents such as printed documents, ancient syllabary, recorded sound and music, films, etc. Special interest is being given to documents from Mindanao and the Martial Law era. (UPDATE: Postponed to September 3)
Also on August 4 is the CHSS Student Council orientation for student volunteers.
On August 5, a preview screening of the the film "Hermano Puli" will be held at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences with film director Gil Portes.
Also on August 5 is a seminar for the Obu Manuvu indigenous people of the Marilog Land Reservation on the packaging and labeling of their food products.
On August 10-12 is the 10th Phil. Book, Information Science, and Technology Fair (Phil-BIST) from the Davao Colleges and Universities Network Library Committee to be held in University of Mindanao-Matina campus.
On August 15 is the deadline for nominations to the first Padayon UP Award for Excellence in Public Service, on the theme "Galing UP, Lingkod Bayan”.
On August 23, Prof. Teody "Bong" Perez opens his 12th Solo Art Exhibit in Tokyo, Japan. The exhibit will feature Prof. Perez’s colored pencil drawings and original illustrations for the Japanese children’s book titled “Sampaguita Necklace”.
