Second UP Mindanao Gender Research Forum

In celebration of the National Women’s Month and 27th UP Mindanao Anniversary, the Office of Gender and Development organizes the 2nd UP Mindanao Gender Research Forum on March 28, 2022, Monday, 1:00-5:00 PM via Zoom. The Webinar will showcase three diverse research papers. Misc. Mandeep Kaur F. Ranu, a faculty member of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, will share “Dreaming about a Pleasure-based approach to ending HIV and AIDS.” Ms. Mitchiko Ariola Lopez, a Researcher from the Office of Research, will give a lecture on “Leveraging existing gender relations to optimize the gains from value-adding opportunities: The case of the cacao value chain in Davao City”. Ms. Marilou Montiflor, a Researcher from the School of Management, will give a talk on “Creating inclusive policies that enhance women’s role in agriculture.”

The Davao Writers Guild invites everyone to PAGBUBUO(D),
a virtual book launch of Ria Valdez's poetry collection, "Sum of Her Parts" published by the Road Map Series.
The event will feature a poetry reading and a brief conversation with the author, a faculty member of the UP Mindanao Department of Humanities.

UP Mindanao hosted the Mindanao Leg of the ABS-CBN Pinoy Media Congress (PMC) Digital Caravan on 19 March 2022. The Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) selected UP Mindanao as the member institution to represent the southern Philippines in the 2021 digital caravan tour. Assoc. Prof. Karen Joyce G. Cayamanda, faculty of the BA Communication and Media Arts program and a member of the PACE's Board of Trustees served as coordinator of the Mindanao Leg. The roll-call of the 32 participating schools within Mindanao showed the diverse locations from which students converged for the congress. Opening messages were given by ABS-CBN corporate communications head Kane Errol Choa, PACE VP for Mindanao Dr. Fraulein Oclarit, and UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao. The resource speakers were journalist Jaque Manabat, TV executive producer EJ Mallari, also a PMC alumnus, and ABS-CBN head of international distribution Pia Bacungan-Laurel. UP Mindanao's BA Communication & Media Arts (BACMA) students participated in the open forum with questions that elicited thoughtful answers from the resource persons. The congress was interspersed with performances, quiz games, and surprise greetings from television celebrities. BACMA students Maya Miclat and Renz Ibanez stood up to the challenge of playing master of ceremonies to a national audience and came through with energy and finesse.

Eufemio T. Rasco Jr. will deliver a lecture on "Data- and Values-driven Approach to Agri-fishery Transformation." Dr. Rasco is UP Mindanao's first Professor Emeritus and is an Academician of the National Academy of Science & Technology. The event is an offering by the DBSES for the 27th Anniversary of UP Mindanao   Please check the poster for details.

[Under] Currents: Reflections on COVID-19 Communication

3rd Session PosterThe BA Communication and Media Arts program of the University of the Philippines Mindanao launches the second session of the "[Under] Currents: Series of Virtual Academic Lectures on Contemporary Communication and Media Matters" on March 26, 2022 (Saturday). This session carries the theme, "Reflections on COVID-19 Communication" and will feature talks by Prof. Raymundo Pavo (College of Humanities and Social Sciences – University of the Philippines Mindanao) and Asst. Prof. Nelfa M. Glova (Department of Humanities – University of the Philippines Mindanao). The program will start at 1:00 PM and end at 4:00 PM via Zoom.

Prof. Pavo is an expert and dedicated scholar in the field of philosophy and social sciences. His research interests include Philosophical Methods, Qualitative Methods in the Social Sciences, Collingwood Studies, Gender and Development, and Urban Night Markets while Assistant Professor Glova is a well-reputed and dedicated researcher in the field of Health Communication. She also serves as a Research Consultant for various projects under the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) and PCHRD-DOST.
