Dr. Rasco's Lecture on Agri-fishery Transformation

2022 032522 DBSES RASCOThe University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao Department of Biological Sciences and Environmental Studies (DBSES) invites the interested public to the Special Lecture Series: Lecture 1 on 25 March 2022.

Eufemio T. Rasco Jr. will deliver a lecture on "Data- and Values-driven Approach to Agri-fishery Transformation." Dr. Rasco is UP Mindanao's first Professor Emeritus and is an Academician of the National Academy of Science & Technology. The event is an offering by the DBSES for the 27th Anniversary of UP Mindanao   Please check the poster for details.

Launch of SARS-COV-2 Genomics Biosurveillance in PGC Mindanao and Visayas

YOU ARE INVITED TO THE LAUNCHING OF THE SARS-COV-2 GENOMICS BIOSURVEILLANCE SERVICES IN PGC VISAYAS AND PGC MINDANAO
 
Themed, "Drawing on Collective Strengths for Pandemic Preparedness" --the expansion of the genomic biosurveillance capacity in Visayas and Mindanao was established to increase the number of weekly samples from around the archipelago for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and to address the logistical challenges of having the samples be transported from labs around the country to the genome center in Diliman.
 
This is made possible through the support of the Department of Health, Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, University of the Philippines System, and the Philippine Genome Center together with its satellite facilities in Visayas and Mindanao, as well as funding support from the Department of Budget and Management.

Prof. Lyre Anni Murao appointed chancellor

The University of the Philippines Board of Regents (BOR) has appointed Prof. Lyre Anni E. Murao as the sixth chancellor of UP Mindanao during its 1368th Meeting on 24 February 2022.
During the Search for the Chancellor process, Prof. Murao proposed her vision paper with the title, “We Rise: UP Mindanao at the Forefront of 21st-Century Transformation.” (https://bit.ly/3Hri6DK) Her vision for UP Mindanao is captured by the word RAISE, an acronym for Respect & integrity, Academic freedom & accountability, Inclusivity & collective significance; Social responsibility; and Excellence.
Prof. Murao is a faculty member of the Department of Biological Sciences and Environmental Studies (DBSES) and the current Program Director of the Philippine Genome Center-Mindanao (PGC-Mindanao). She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Medical Science in Infection Research conferred by Nagasaki University, Japan. She earned her Master of Science in Microbiology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and her BS Molecular Biology degree from the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
Prof. Murao’s term officially begins on 1 March 2022 and concludes on 28 February 2025.
