 Chancellor Larry N. Digal and the UP Mindanao team met with Mr. Kelly Moran of the University of Hawai'i-Hilo and his associate Dr. Loye Ashton today (August 19) for a discussion on partnership opportunities. Mr. Moran offered a draft memorandum of understanding for the two universities to cooperate on international programs based on the principle of reciprocity. Among the programs mentioned for consideration are collaborations on joint research and conferences, exchange of faculty, researchers, students, and academic publications, and other academic exchanges to which both universities agree. The exchange of business startup incubatees is, likewise, mentioned. Chancellor Digal welcomed the opportunity for international exchange and the proposed memorandum, together with Prof. Emma Ruth Bayogan, director of UP Mindanao's Center for the Advancement of Research in Mindanao (CARIM), and Prof. Cleto "Ting" Nanola, director of the Office of Extension and Community Service (OECS). The meeting was arranged by Asst. Prof. Miguel Carlo Guillermo, head of UPGRADE, UP Mindanao's technology business incubation unit.

If you are a Filipino public high school in Region 11 graduate who belongs to the Top Ten in your graduating class, you may apply for freshman admission to UP Mindanao, as provided by the Iskolar ng Bayan (INB) Law of 2014. Grantees are entitled to free college education when they register in UP.

UP Mindanao  will accept applications from SHS graduates who satisfy the following conditions: 
* Filipino citizen.
* Must have graduated from a PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL within REGION XI within not more than two (2) years prior to Academic Year 2021-2022
*Must provide a certification from the public high school principal of the rank of the applicant in the Top Ten graduates (Grade 12/rank should be based on the overall population of the school).
*Must be enrolling for the first time in college and has no credited previous college work.
* Must have obtained a rating of UPG 2.800 or better (the UP Mindanao minimum UPG eligibility) in the UP College Admission.
 
APPLICATION :
* Duly accomplished INB application form (https://bit.ly/3hW77bT)
* Certification that you belong to the OVERALL Top Ten of your school's SHS graduates, duly signed by the School Principal, stating your rank, with the school logo and dry-seal.
* Printed copy of the Notice from UP Office of Admissions indicating a UPG of 2.800 or better.
* Copy of SHS Form 137

Japan's Consul General offers linkage for S&T park

Consul General Yoshiaki Miwa of the Consulate General of Japan in Davao visited UP Mindanao on 06 April 2021 to express his interest in helping UP Mindanao establish a science and technology park. Chancellor Larry Digal and Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Nilo Oponda led the UP Mindanao team in welcoming Consul Miwa and his administrative staff, Ms. Nunome Sana. The consul said Davao City has a sister city agreement with Kitakyushu City which has the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park operating with the collaboration of universities, research institutes, and industrial companies. Chancellor Digal presented UP Mindanao’s expansion plans, including the upcoming academic programs, research thrusts, and campus development plans, and offered to arrange future meetings. Dr. Melvin Pasaporte also shared with the consul some experiences from the UP Mindanao polylactic acid commercialization project. Finally, Consul Miwa took a tour of the campus guided by Architect Ellen Dorado and Campus Planning & Development chief Cherrylyn Cabrera. The consul's visit and offer align with UP Mindanao's plan to establish the Knowledge, Innovation, Science & Technology (KIST) Park on the campus.
