UP Mindanao and DOST Region XI will jointly host the launching of the book titled “Sensory Quality Measurement: Statistical Analysis of Human Responses” on November 23, 2009 (Monday) at 3:00 PM at the CHSS Audio-Visual Room, Administration Building, UP Mindanao, Mintal, Davao City. The public is invited to attend. The book is co-authored by Dr. Miflora M. Gatchalian and Dr. Grace Divino-Brannan and is considered one of the Philippines’ major contributions to the field of Sensory Science. This is a discipline which has gained global attention for its role in facilitating the understanding of human perceptions about food and related products. The book, which is now on its third edition, is a continuation of the pioneering efforts of Dr. Gatchalian who wrote the first edition in 1981 at a time when there was virtually nothing written about the subject. Many food companies regarded the first edition as their “Bible” for sensory information and are now anticipating the availability of the third edition. The UP- Diliman College of Home Economics published the first two editions of this pioneering book which is endorsed by the International Academy for Quality, a prestigious organization of globally recognized quality experts, thereby giving the book international stature. This 300-plus page third edition provides much needed information and guidance to those engaged in measurements and their scientific analysis in the areas of food research, processing, quality assurance, market monitoring and consumer researches. The book is a must-have for those in the food and related industries such as hotels, restaurants, pharmaceuticals, packaging and the academe. For parties interested to learn more of these methods, a three-day Basic Sensory Evaluation Methods (BSEM) Seminar-Workshop will be held on November 24-26, 2009 at Room 209, UP Mindanao School of Management at Iñigo (formerly Anda) St., Davao City. The seminar-workshop fee is at P3,000.00 per participant. Patrons and sponsors will also be invited to avail of copies of the book and participation in the seminar-workshop. Reservations are accepted on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Reservations for the book-launching and the BSEM seminar-workshop may be made through A-ai at 221-7313 or Evette/Lyda at 293-0402..
