The University of the Philippines (UPMin) partnered with external agencies in a recent meeting in order to move forward to the forefront of transformative education. For this, UPMin will offer expanded access to higher education for the Mindanao youth and lifelong learning for professionals. In addition, UPMin will further expand its extension services for the communities. These were some of UPMin's responses to feedback given by external stakeholders following UPMin’s three-year strategic plan presentation and call for partnerships in a forum on September 27, 2022

UPMin launches arnis sports academy

The University of the Philippines Mindanao has partnered with Kapatirang Doble Olisi Escrima (KDOE) to establish a sports academy. Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. Annabelle Novero, on behalf of Chancellor  Lyre Anni Murao, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Grand Master (GM) Mario Palazuelo of the KDOE for the arnis sports academy in the UP Mindanao Main Library on September 23, 2022. The sports academy training sessions will be conducted from October 01 to December 17, 2022, every Saturday from 8 AM to 11 AM at the UP Mindanao Atrium with GM Mario as the head trainer.

The UP Mindanao Department of Human Kinetics (DHK) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kapatirang Doble Olisi Escrima (KDOE) on September 23, 2022, to develop a Sports Academy focusing on Arnis. In the photo, KDOE President/Founder Grand Master Mario Palazuelo (left) and UPMin Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Annabelle Novero signed the MOU at the UPMin University Library, witnessed by (left-right) DHK staff Charmaine Dimalanta, DHK department chairperson Asst. Prof. Jezreel Abarca, and Asst. Prof. Erwin Protacio. The Sports Academy- Arnis sessions begin October 1, 2022, and end on December 17, 2022. Sessions are every Saturday, from 8:00 AM-11:00 AM at UP Mindanao Atrium. Registration is still ongoing until October 3, 2022. The UP Mindanao DHK is working towards the goal of promoting excellence in sports through the Mindanao Sports Development Program. The collaboration between UPMin DHK and KDOE for Sports Academy-Arnis moves toward this vision. The DHK is working towards the establishment of a College of Human Kinetics. It presently offers the Associate in Arts in Sports Studies, the Bachelor in Sports Science, the Diploma in Exercise and Sports Science, and the UP Diliman Off-campus MS in Human Movement Science.
