MS. ANALIZA "Liza" FULVADORA, UP Mindanao Scholarships Officer, has been conferred as 5th Staff Regent to the UP Board of Regents, the highest policy-making body of the University of the Philippines. This is a culmination of the result of elections conducted on July 18 by non-teaching personnel across the entire UP System. She will represent the 8,700 members of this sector in the 11-person Board for a term of two years until June 30, 2019. Her selection is historic for being the first Staff Regent to come from UP Mindanao.

Her conferment was made in ceremonies held on July 27. A Turn-over of the Office of the Staff Regent was done between Mr. Alexis Mejia and Ms. Fulvadora. She took her Oath of Office as administered by Board co-chairperson Patricia Licuanan. She assumed her seat upon Call to Order and participated in the 1329th Meeting of the Board.

Regent Liza has pledged, in her vision paper, to pursue the regularization of casual and contractual employees, increased employee salaries and benefits, expanded service recognition, full implementation of the collective negotiation agreement with the UP administration, and democratic participation in policy-making.

In the BOR, Regent Liza will be in the company of the other sectoral regents, namely, Faculty Regent Patricia Arinto, Alumni Regent Ramon Maronilla, and Student Regent Shari Oliquino; the three Malacañang-appointed regents, namely, Francis Laurel, Angelo Jimenez, and Frederick Farolan; the chairpersons of the Senate and House Education Committees, namely, Senator Francis Escudero and Congresswoman Ann Hofer; and the Board co-chairpersons, who are CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan and UP President Danilo Concepcion.

Her path to the BOR began as president of the All UP Workers Union-UP Mindanao chapter. Because the current policy for the selection of the staff regent requires that the opportunity to be nominated be rotated among the eight UP constituent universities, Presidente Liza was nominated when the opportunity came for the cluster of UP Mindanao, UP Cebu, UP Baguio, and UP Open University.

Regent Liza has been with UP Mindanao since 1998 and has degrees in commerce, nursing, and special education.
