MOU with Mintal Comprehensive High School

Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao signed a Memorandum of Understanding with School Principal Raul Cabilogan of Mintal Comprehensive High School (MCHS)-Junior High School on August 22, 2023, for cooperation in Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) education. The MOU was sought by Principal Cabilogan in line with the MCHS's move for the DepEd's recognition of its STE program. The MOU will provide MCHS's students with opportunities for learning experiences in science and technology. The UPMin Executive Committee witnessed the signing ceremony and gave inputs for possible activities.

Student-athletes from the Department of Human Kinetics bagged several awards in different competitions during the 2023 Kadayawan Festival.

Glenn John Malisa, Jonathan Ryle Mata, and Khim Nyle Ubal won gold medals in the senior advance categories during the 38th Kadayawan Festival: Invitational Arnis Kali Eskrima Tournament held last August 19-20 at the UP Mindanao- Davao City Sports Complex. Kaye Louren Famulagan and June Flloyd Zabala won silver and bronze awards, respectively. (See more: Arnis)

Meanwhile, Associate in Arts in Sports Science student dancers triumphed at the SAYAW: Kadayawan 2023 Interschool Dance Festival and Dance Sports Competition last August 22 at the Philippine Women’s College of Davao. 

Aisha Manansala and Rainanne Abalos were champions in the duo modern standard tertiary category while also winning first and second place in the solo modern tertiary category. Moreover, Karisse Arellano and David Bentulan also emerged as champions in the couple Latin beginner tertiary category while also winning 3rd place in the couple Latin regular category, with both student dancers bagging first and second place awards in the solo Latin tertiary category. BSFT grads pass first Food Tech Licensure Exams

The UPMin Department of Food Science and Chemistry (DFSC) reported that five BS Food Technology graduates passed the first-ever Food Technology Licensure Examination, with a Top Ten passer, and UP Mindanao emerging among the Top 3 performing schools.

Ms. Abbie Glenn M. Estribillo, BSFT 2015, was an 8th-Placer in the Exam. She was followed by fellow BSFT alumni and successful examinees Mr. Bryle Matthew F. Bacatan, Ms. Ara Nikka Faith E. Bangcaya, Mr. Jherson B. Gutierrez, and Ms. Angela Timothy P. Serrano.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported 453 passers out of 1,133 examinees, or a 39.98% national passing rate.

The PRC recognized UP Mindanao among the Top 3 performing schools for having 5 passers and an 83.33% overall passing percentage.

The exams were conducted on August 10-11, 2023, at testing centers in NCR, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Rosales, and Zamboanga.

The newly-licensed Food Technologists brought pride to the DFSC and the UP Mindanao community, and their achievement addresses Sustainable Development Goals on Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, and Responsible Consumption and Production. 

Streetlights in the University Avenue

UP Mindanao has installed four solar streetlights along University Avenue on the campus. Two more will follow soon. This project by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration aims to provide a safe and secure environment for university students and personnel. Soon, the project will be expanded to illuminate areas in the University, such as the road along the Davao City-UP Sports Complex.
