The University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin) is celebrating its 29th anniversary on February 20, 2024. The Anniversary Committee crafted the theme "Duyog sa Pag-alagad: Sustainable partnership in the service to the people."

Stakeholders and the public are invited to join any and all events in the Schedule of Events presented above (February to March) to celebrate 29 years of honor, excellence, and service to the nation.

UP Mindanao is presently the only UP constituent university in Mindanao. UPMin was created by Republic Act 7889 on February 20, 1995, in response to appeals from alumni for a UP in Mindanao. Its primary mandate is to provide equitable access to quality UP education to Mindanaoans. It offers academic programs in the fields of the humanities, architecture, mathematics, food technology, agribusiness economics, sports, and the social, natural, and computing sciences. As a graduate university, it offers PhD by Research, and graduate degrees in management, food science, urban and regional planning, and sports science. Its development agenda focuses on opening additional academic programs and new colleges in sports, medicine, and engineering, to support Mindanao sports, health, technological, and bio-cultural diversity initiatives. With these, it aims to be an internationally competitive graduate, research, and public service university, primed to contribute to Mindanao and Philippine development.

UPMin's programs, projects, and activities are aligned with the UP System's strategic thrust to address the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

Chancellor Murao has issued OC-MEM-LAEM 2024 - 007, dated 04 February 2024, moving the first day of classes to February 12, 2024, from the original start date of 05 February 2024.

In her memo, the chancellor stated, "In response to the recent heavy rains and floods affecting Mindanao, particularly the Davao region and CARAGA, our top priority is ensuring the safety of our University constituents. The adverse weather has disrupted transportation and Internet connectivity, presenting challenges for some members of our academic community.

Due to these unforeseen circumstances and based on recent data from monitoring of students, we have made the decision to postpone the start of classes to 12 February 2024. This adjustment allows time for those affected to address the difficulties posed by the current situation."
